Acceptable Use Policy
Room to create. A responsibility to use it well.
This Acceptable Use Policy (the "Policy" or "AUP") governs all use of the Tein generative-media platform, including the api.tein.ai API, the web playground, hosted model endpoints (image, video, audio, and language models), workflows, and any related services (collectively, the "Service"). It applies to every prompt you submit, every input you upload, every output you generate, and every application you build on top of the Service. This Policy is incorporated by reference into, and forms part of, the Tein Terms of Service. Violation of this Policy is a material breach of those Terms.
1. Overview & Scope
Tein provides on-demand generative compute: hosted image, video, audio, and language models that you access through prepaid credits via the api.tein.ai API, the web playground, and the applications and workflows built on top of them. Because our infrastructure can produce photorealistic and highly persuasive synthetic media at scale, we impose strict conditions on how it may be used. This Policy states those conditions. It applies to (a) every prompt, parameter, reference image, audio clip, fine-tuning input, or other material you submit to the Service ("Inputs"); (b) every image, video, audio clip, text completion, or other material the Service returns ("Outputs"); (c) all API traffic, playground use, and automated or programmatic access under your account or API keys; and (d) the conduct of any end users to whom you expose the Service through your own products, as described in Section 10.
You are responsible for your use of the Service and for everything generated under your account, whether the request was made by you, your employees, your contractors, or your end users. If any provision of this Policy conflicts with a provision of the Terms of Service, the provision that is more protective of minors and of the safety of third parties controls. We may update this Policy from time to time as models, capabilities, and the threat landscape evolve; the "Last updated" date above reflects the current version, and continued use of the Service after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised Policy.
Nothing in this Policy permits use of the Service in violation of applicable law, including the Criminal Code (Canada) and the laws of the jurisdiction in which you or your end users are located. Where this Policy is stricter than the law, this Policy governs.
2. Safety: Protection of Minors
The absolute, non-negotiable rule of this platform is the protection of minors. You may not use the Service, under any circumstances, on any model, through any endpoint, for any purpose, in any jurisdiction, to create, request, upload, process, store, describe, solicit, or distribute content that sexualizes, exploits, endangers, or harms a minor. For the purposes of this Policy, a "minor" means any person or depicted character who is, appears to be, is presented as, or is described as under 18 years of age. This prohibition applies with equal force whether the depiction is real, fictional, stylized, cartoon, anime, "aged-up," partially synthetic, or fully synthetic, and whether the generation attempt succeeds or fails. An attempt is a violation.
Prohibited conduct under this Section includes, without limitation: child sexual abuse material ("CSAM") in any form or medium; sexualized depictions of minors of any kind, including nudity presented in a sexual context, sexualized poses, clothing, framing, or captions applied to minor subjects; content that presents an adult in a manner intended to signal that the subject is a minor (for example through school settings, childlike features, props, or text implying an age under 18); the use of a real child's image, likeness, or voice in any sexual, intimate, or degrading context; grooming content, including material designed to desensitize, manipulate, or lure a minor into sexual activity; sextortion content or any material used to coerce, threaten, or blackmail a minor; instructions, roleplay, or narrative content that facilitates or normalizes the sexual abuse of children; and any attempt to test, probe, jailbreak, or prompt-engineer any model toward producing such material, regardless of whether an Output was ever produced.
There is no carve-out from this Section. Tein operates certain designated Creative mode endpoints with broader creative range (see Section 4). Those endpoints support lawful creative work, including horror and film; they are not, and will never be, an exception to this Section. Child-safety restrictions apply to every model and endpoint, including Creative mode. No account tier, enterprise agreement, verification status, research justification, or "artistic" framing exempts any request from child-safety screening. If you believe you have a legitimate professional need that even approaches this boundary (for example, a child-protection organization conducting classifier research), do not use the Service; contact us in writing first, and assume the answer is no.
Detection and consequences. We may use automated checks and human review to identify violations. No screening system detects every violation. A confirmed violation of this Section, including a confirmed attempt, results in all of the following, immediately and without prior notice: (i) permanent termination of your account and of every account we reasonably associate with you; (ii) forfeiture of all remaining credits, purchased and promotional, without refund or compensation; (iii) blocking of associated devices, payment instruments, API keys, network identifiers, and other signals to prevent re-registration or evasion through new accounts; (iv) preservation of relevant records, prompts, Outputs, and account data as evidence, notwithstanding any deletion request, for as long as necessary to support investigation and legal process; and (v) reporting where required by law or otherwise lawfully justified to competent law-enforcement or child-protection authorities. The reporting route depends on the applicable jurisdiction and legal duty. We cooperate fully with resulting investigations.
Enforcement under this Section is not graduated. You may request review of factual errors or mistaken identification under Section 11; confirmed violations remain prohibited. Elsewhere in this Policy we distinguish between accidental and deliberate misuse and apply proportionate remedies; here we do not. One confirmed violation is permanent. If you operate a platform on top of Tein and you encounter child-exploitation content from your own end users, you are required to report it to us and to the appropriate authorities as described in Sections 10 and 12; a customer's prompt and honest reporting of end-user abuse, together with cooperation in its remediation, is not itself treated as the customer's violation.
3. Non-Consensual & Exploitative Content
You may not use the Service to create or distribute intimate or sexual content depicting a real, identifiable person without that person's express consent. This includes non-consensual intimate imagery ("NCII"), so-called "revenge" imagery, "nudification" or "undressing" of photographs of real people, the insertion of a real person's face, body, or voice into sexual content, and the recreation of a real person in an intimate scenario they did not consent to. Consent must come from the depicted person; the consent of an uploader, subscriber, or third party is not sufficient, and consent to one depiction is not consent to others. These prohibitions apply on every model and endpoint, including the designated Creative mode endpoints described in Section 4.
You may also not use the Service to create, advertise, or facilitate content involving human trafficking, sexual exploitation, or commercial sexual services obtained through force, fraud, or coercion; content that depicts or glorifies sexual violence, including rape, sexual assault, incapacitation, or scenarios in which a depicted party does not or cannot consent; or content that facilitates extortion, blackmail, or harassment through intimate imagery, whether real or synthetic. Violations of this Section are treated with the same severity as the most serious violations under this Policy and will result in account termination, credit forfeiture, evidence preservation, and, where required by law or otherwise lawfully justified, referral to law enforcement.
4. Creative mode: Creative Use and Limits
Creative mode supports lawful creative work, including film, horror, visual effects and other mature, non-sexual themes that a standard filter may restrict. It is not permission to bypass this Policy. Pornography and other content intended for sexual gratification are prohibited throughout the Service, including every Creative mode endpoint, regardless of whether the people depicted are adults or have consented. Calling a request artistic, cinematic, private or experimental does not exempt it from these rules. A project label alone does not establish that nudity is permitted; applicable model and service restrictions still apply.
In the browser playground, Creative mode requires an approved access request for your account (request access). API availability does not create an exception to the content rules: every request under your account and API keys is bound by this Policy. You must meet the age and eligibility requirements in our Terms of Service. We may require proportionate age or identity verification before granting or restoring access. Verification does not establish consent from people depicted in your content or permission to use someone else's intellectual property.
If you make Creative mode endpoints or their Outputs available to others, you must take legally compliant steps to verify that those users meet the applicable age requirement, apply these content rules to them, and keep only the records reasonably necessary to demonstrate compliance. You must notify us of material changes to your platform, audience or verification practices. Safety restrictions remain in effect on every endpoint. We may refuse requests, restrict access or suspend an account while reviewing suspected misuse, and revoke access or terminate accounts for confirmed violations. Reports to authorities are made where required by law or otherwise lawfully justified; a breach of our content rules is not automatically a criminal offence. Documented use ofcreative_mode: true on an available API checkpoint changes that model setting; it does not authorize circumvention of platform safeguards, account restrictions or third-party model terms. These obligations apply equally to APIs, playgrounds, MCPs and workflows.
Creative mode requests may be reviewed by authorized staff. Content retention, deletion and lawful preservation are described in our Privacy Policy. You must have documented consent to use a real person's likeness and the necessary rights to all reference material. Non-consensual intimate imagery, sexual exploitation and sexualized depictions of minors remain prohibited without exception.
5. Civility
You may not use the Service to threaten, intimidate, bully, or harass any person, or to organize or encourage others to do so. This includes generating content intended to demean, humiliate, or instill fear in an identifiable individual, and the targeted creation of degrading depictions of private persons. You may not use the Service to create or promote content that dehumanizes, incites violence against, or promotes the exclusion or segregation of people on the basis of race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, disability, serious disease, or any other characteristic protected under applicable law, including the Canadian Human Rights Act and provincial human rights codes.
You may not use the Service to produce gratuitous depictions of extreme violence, gore, or cruelty designed to shock, or to glorify acts of terrorism or mass violence or their perpetrators. Contextual violence for legitimate creative, journalistic, educational, or documentary purposes is evaluated on its substance; content whose purpose is the violence itself is not permitted.
6. Integrity & Impersonation
You may not use the Service to defraud, deceive, or manipulate others. Prohibited uses include generating content for scams, phishing, catfishing, romance fraud, investment fraud, counterfeit goods, or fake reviews and testimonials; creating synthetic media that impersonates a real person (their face, body, voice, or manner) without that person's consent or another lawful basis, where the depiction would mislead a reasonable viewer; and producing deepfakes of public figures, candidates, or officials intended to deceive, including fabricated statements, endorsements, or conduct. Using a real person's face or likeness without that person's documented consent, including through Pass faces or on Creative mode endpoints, is not subject to graduated enforcement: it results in the permanent termination of your account, subject to review of factual errors, and, where required by law or otherwise lawfully justified, a report to the appropriate authorities.
You may not use the Service to create or knowingly distribute content designed to interfere with elections or civic processes, including false information about voting times, places, methods, or eligibility, or medical misinformation likely to cause real-world harm, such as fabricated clinical claims presented as fact. Where you publish synthetic media that could reasonably be mistaken for authentic recordings of real events or people, you must disclose its synthetic nature where required by law or platform policy, and you must not strip, alter, or falsify provenance signals or watermarks that the Service applies to Outputs.
7. Privacy & Data
You may not use the Service to collect, harvest, infer, or process personal information about others without a lawful basis. Prohibited conduct includes scraping or aggregating personal information to build profiles of identifiable individuals; submitting or generating personal health information, financial account data, government identifiers, or precise geolocation of others without authorization; using the Service to derive biometric identifiers or conduct facial recognition on individuals without their consent; and doxxing: compiling or publishing private information about a person to expose, intimidate, or harm them.
If you submit personal information to the Service as Inputs, you represent that you have the right to do so and that your use complies with applicable privacy law, including the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and substantially similar provincial legislation where applicable. You must also respect rights of publicity and personality: do not use the Service to commercially exploit a person's name, image, likeness, or voice without the necessary rights or consent. Our own handling of personal information is described in the Privacy Policy.
8. Security & Platform Integrity
You may not attack, probe, or undermine the Service. Prohibited conduct includes attempting to reverse engineer, decompile, or extract the weights, architecture, or training data of any hosted model; using Outputs or systematic querying to train or distill a competing foundation model in violation of the Terms of Service; bypassing, disabling, or degrading safety classifiers or moderation systems, including through prompt injection, adversarial encoding, or jailbreak techniques; circumventing rate limits, quotas, or metering, including by creating multiple accounts, pooling API keys, or splitting a single workload across accounts to evade limits or farm promotional credits; and introducing malware, conducting denial-of-service attacks, testing the vulnerability of the Service without written authorization, or accessing accounts, data, or systems that are not yours.
You are responsible for safeguarding your API keys; traffic authenticated with your keys is attributed to you, and compromised keys must be rotated and reported promptly. Good-faith, coordinated security research is welcome through security@tein.ai; research conducted outside a coordinated disclosure is treated as an attack.
9. Illegal Goods & Criminality
You may not use the Service to plan, facilitate, promote, or conceal criminal activity. This includes generating content that provides material assistance in the design, production, or deployment of weapons, explosives, or chemical, biological, radiological, or nuclear agents; creating malware, exploits, or tools for unauthorized access to systems or data; facilitating the sale of illegal drugs, counterfeit currency or documents, or other contraband; and producing forged identification, credentials, or official records.
You may not use the Service in violation of applicable sanctions and export-control laws, including Canadian economic sanctions administered under the Special Economic Measures Act and the United Nations Act, and other applicable export-control regimes. You may not use the Service if you are located in, or acting on behalf of a person in, a comprehensively sanctioned jurisdiction, or if you are a sanctioned or designated person, and you may not use the Service to launder money or evade financial-crime controls.
10. Customer Platforms & End Users
If you integrate the Service into your own product, through the API, embedded workflows, or otherwise, you are the first line of enforcement for your end users. You must impose use restrictions on your end users that are at least as protective as this Policy; implement technical and operational measures reasonably designed to prevent, detect, and stop end-user violations, proportionate to the risk profile of your product; implement age verification for your end users where required by Section 4 or by applicable law; promptly suspend or terminate end users who violate these restrictions; and pass through to Tein, on request, information reasonably necessary to investigate abuse originating from your platform.
If you encounter content on or through your platform that involves the sexual exploitation of a minor, you must preserve it in accordance with applicable law, report it immediately to us at abuse@tein.ai, and report it to the authority required by the law applicable to you. Reporting routes and preservation duties differ by jurisdiction; do not assume that a report to Tein satisfies your legal duties. Do not redistribute, download, or further examine such content beyond what reporting requires. Systematic or negligent failure to police your platform is itself a violation of this Policy attributable to your account.
11. Monitoring & Enforcement
We enforce this Policy through automated checks, abuse-pattern analysis of API traffic, staff review of requests made through the designated Creative mode endpoints, which we reserve the right to check at any time, and human review of escalated cases. We may investigate any suspected violation, and you agree to cooperate reasonably with such investigations. For most categories of violation, enforcement is graduated and proportionate: depending on severity, intent, and history, we may issue a warning, remove content, throttle or restrict features, revoke access to specific endpoints, suspend the account, or terminate it. Where practicable and lawful, we will tell you what we did and why. You may request review through the dashboard where available or through Support, normally within thirty (30) days. A person able to review the decision will consider the information you provide. This administrative window does not restrict statutory rights to correction, human review or other recourse. A suspension applies to every organization you own, and their members cannot generate in them while it lasts. While your account is suspended, its credit balance is kept and a Scale subscription is not billed until the suspension is lifted; amounts already paid are not refunded.
Graduated enforcement does not apply to the zero-tolerance categories in Sections 2 and 3, or to the use of a real person's face or likeness without their documented consent (Sections 4 and 6). Confirmed violations involving the sexualization or exploitation of minors, the use of a real person's likeness without their documented consent, NCII, human trafficking, or sexual-violence content result in immediate permanent termination, credit forfeiture, legally required or otherwise lawfully justified reporting, and the further consequences described in Section 2, without a warning step. Any violation involving minors, and any use of a real person's face or likeness without their documented consent, is a termination, never a suspension, subject to review of factual errors; reporting follows applicable legal duties and disclosure rules. Suspected child sexual abuse material is escalated through our child-safety reporting procedure. You may request review of a mistaken decision through Support, including for a termination. Restrictions may remain in effect during review, and statutory privacy and recourse rights are not limited by this Policy. We may preserve and disclose Inputs, Outputs, account records, and traffic data relating to suspected violations where we believe in good faith that disclosure is required by law, necessary to respond to valid legal process, or necessary to protect the safety of any person, including disclosure to law enforcement and child-protection organizations. Mandatory consumer remedies remain available. Subject to those rights, credits forfeited in connection with enforcement under this Policy are not refunded; as stated in the Terms of Service, all credit purchases are final and non-refundable.
12. Reporting Violations
If you become aware of content or conduct that may violate this Policy, report it to abuse@tein.ai with as much detail as you can safely provide: relevant URLs, request IDs, timestamps, and a description of the issue. Do not download or send us suspected child sexual abuse material, government identity documents, or other sensitive evidence by email. Reports concerning the safety of a child, or any other emergency involving a risk to life or safety, are prioritized ahead of all other queues: mark the subject line "URGENT: child safety" or "URGENT: emergency" and, if a person is in immediate danger, contact local law enforcement first. Security vulnerabilities should be reported to security@tein.ai under our coordinated disclosure process. We review every report and do not penalize good-faith reporting, even when a report proves unfounded.
